Description

The Inspirational Speakers lecture series aims to enrich the learning and knowledge of the University community – providing staff and students with engaging and interesting talks by leading figures across various sectors and industries.

The first three lectures in the programme are focused on higher education: senior sector leaders will explore current and future challenges and opportunities in higher education from the perspective of their organisation, as well as their own inspirational journey as a leader.

The lecture + Q&A format will allow you to engage in an interactive discussion and delve into specific areas of interest.

We are delighted to welcome Clare Marchant, Chief Executive of UCAS as our second guest speaker.

Date: Wednesday 11th March 2020

Time: 5.30pm - 6.00pm - Networking and Refreshments, 6.00pm - 7.00pm - lecture inc. Q&A

Venue: Chancellor’s Hall, Wulfruna Building, City Campus.

Clare has been UCAS Chief Executive since 2017 and feels privileged to have lead it through a period of dramatic digital transformation: putting students at the centre of all it provides, from admissions through to information and advice, data analysis and insights and the provision of commercial products and services through UCAS Media. Clare started her career within manufacturing, before moving to management consultancy with Deloitte, then central and local government, latterly as Chief Executive of Worcestershire County Council. She graduated from Hull University in 1993 and gained a MSc from the Open University in 1998.

Building on her prior experience in leading difficult and complex transformation across a variety of sectors, Clare will examine the current challenges in ensuring fair and transparent access to Higher Education and argue for a reformed model which both simplifies and provides parity of opportunity. As Chief Executive of UCAS, she will outline UCAS’ strategy for embracing change and driving digital transformation across the products and services they provide on behalf of universities, colleges and students. Finally she will survey the landscape outside of the UK, in a world where global economics and relations drive the student population attracted to UK higher education as much as anything happening within the four countries.
